What Spirit Are We Of?

What a different world it would be today if even the so called “Christians,” much less “Christian nations,” followed Jesus’ commands and teachings…

“You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them who despitefully use you, and persecute you; That you may be the children of your Father who is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.” (Mat 5:43-45 KJ2000)

When we return evil for evil, curse for curses, hate for hate and murder for murder, who do we manifest as the one who is our father? The same father as those who sought to kill Jesus Who said to those self-righteous Jews, “You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.” (Joh 8:44 KJ2000)

Do we know what spirit we are of in this hate filled world? I think that there is a lot of room for some real soul searching and repentance among those of us who claim Christ as our Savior and times like this show us what is really in our hearts.

  1. The answer to your post is synonomous with another question, “Am I saving myself?” There are many ways in which we can accomplish this, but regardless of the methodology I am signing my death sentence in doing so.
I can save myself by condemning others to death who jeopardize my freedom. A freedom I may presently have but certainly do not deserve.
I can save myself by hoarding up material possessions and money so I will never lack what I think I need at the expense of others who need.
I can save myself by refusing to carry a cross that continually sets aside fleshly dependences like reliance upon men, their devices, their methods and their weapons.
= I can save myself by a continual self centered life that has my own interests in mind at the expense of the interests of Jesus Christ.
The Spirit of Christ Jesus opposes everything I am. Unless I am controlled and propelled by this Spirit, I shall forfeit (lose my life) despite my profession of faith. A true Christian has one interest at heart- the very same interest of His Lord Jesus Christ, nothing more, nothing less.

I/we have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I/we who lives but Christ who lives in me/us. And the life I/we now live in the flesh I/we now live by faith In The SON of GOD who loved me/us and gave HIMSELF for me/us. Gal.2:20
Those of us who are familiar with this verse will quickly recognize the liberty I have taken with the text. Generally speaking, we don’t have much of a problem with an individual application of this verse but we have major problems with the corporate application. After all didn’t the Master say, If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn and let him strike you on the left cheek”? But what about that person or persons tearing down and burning our flag, constitution, twin towers, etc. are we then justified in going to full war mode? I think not. To do so cancels out, “the life I/we now live in the flesh by faith in the SON of GOD who loved me/us and gave himself for me/us”.
      Seems simple to me.

Look at King Jehoshaphat’s response to evil tiding about his tiny nation coming under attack in 2 Chron. 20. I wonder what would happen if our modern nations, beginning with Prime Ministers/Presidents, did that?
