T. A. Sparks has pointed out that what God does and wills in the beginning He continues to see through in all His workings to the very end, even in us! We who belong to Christ had our spiritual destiny called out by God from the foundations of the world. Wow! Paul put it this way:
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? (Rom 8:29-32, KJ2000)
And Peter wrote:
And we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. (2Pet 1:18-19, ESV2011)
Jesus is our Morning Star who is rising in our hearts as we mature spiritually and He casts out all spiritual darkness that still has a hold on us. This rising brings with it perfect love that casts out all fear and sustains us through our purifying trials. I am reminded of the stories of the martyrs down through the centuries who stood boldly in the face of death with no fear of what the devil was about to unleash on them. They also expressed love for their captors in the face of all this. Often their very executioners begged for their forgiveness before they had to carry out their orders. God’s love and forgiveness overwhelmed them. Amazing!
In Genesis we read of God’s creation where He started out with an earth that was without form, a world in chaos filled with darkness. This is how we were before God caused the Daystar to shine into our hearts and His Spirit brooded over us.
In the beginning God (prepared, formed, fashioned, and) created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and an empty waste [chaos], and darkness was upon the face of the very great deep. The Spirit of God was moving (hovering, brooding) over the face of the waters. (Gen 1:1-2, AMP)
In the first day of creation God said, “Let there be Light” and there WAS Light! What kind of Light was this? Could it have been the light of a sun and the moon? I think not because the sun, moon and stars were not created until the fourth day. That light in the first day was spiritual light that ruled over the whole of His creation, Jesus Christ, casting out darkness as He continues to do today. John in his gospel spoke of Jesus being there in the very beginning.
All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the LIFE was the LIGHT of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. (John 1:3-5, ESV2011)
Later he quotes Jesus:
“Now the judgment (crisis) of this world [world system] is coming on [sentence is now being passed on this world]. Now the ruler (evil genius, prince) of this world shall be cast out (expelled). And I, if and when I am lifted up from the earth [on the cross], will draw and attract all men [Gentiles as well as Jews] to Myself.” (John 12:31-32, AMP)
So what is the “darkness” that God separated from that Light in the first day? It was spiritual darkness, the prince of darkness and his minions. As in the beginning of creation, darkness does not prevail (See Isaiah 14:12-17).
Jesus is the Pattern Son! The Spirit of God continues moving in our lives until the Father’s desire, many sons and daughters who will glorify Him with their lives are recreated in the image and Light of His Son.
Isaiah prophesied about Jesus and those who walk by His Spirit.
“Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the LORD has risen upon you. For behold, darkness shall cover the earth, and thick darkness the peoples; but the LORD will arise upon you, and his glory will be seen upon you. And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising.” (Isa 60:1-3, ESV2011)
Jesus appeared to Saul of Tarsus on the Damascus road as he and his men were searching out those who believed in Christ to imprison and execute them. In Christ’s light, in a flash, he was converted from his darkened heart into a man who believed in Christ as the Messiah, who told him that he would be part of this rising that Isaiah prophesied.
And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.” And I said, “Who are you, Lord?” And the Lord said, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting. But rise and stand upon your feet, for I have appeared to you for this purpose, to appoint you as a servant and witness to the things in which you have seen me and to those in which I will appear to you, delivering you from your people and from the Gentiles— to whom I am sending you to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me.” (Acts 26:14-18, ESV2011)
This spiritual darkness which still holds men and women captive started before the seven days of God’s creation. That creation was a reaction by God to the rising up of Satan in an attempt to overthrow heaven and be the “lord of all” himself, seeking to usurp the place of the Son of God. He and the angels that followed him were the third of the “stars” of heaven that were cast down to the earth. He has been filled with wrath against Jesus and God’s creation ever since, especially those in whom His Son abides and manifests.
And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, and prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, who deceives the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. (Rev 12:7-9, KJ2000)
“[My adversary Satan] has torn [me] in his wrath and hated and persecuted me; he has gnashed upon me with his teeth; my adversary sharpens his eyes against me. [The forces of evil] have gaped at me with their mouths; they have struck me upon the cheek insolently; they massed themselves together and conspired unanimously against me.” (Job 16:9-10, AMP)
Then his wife said to him, “Do you still hold fast your blameless uprightness? Renounce God and die!” But he said to her, “You speak as one of the impious and foolish women would speak. What? Shall we accept [only] good at the hand of God and shall we not accept [also] misfortune and what is of a bad nature?” In [spite of] all this, Job did not sin with his lips.” (Job 2:9-10, AMP)
As it was in the life of Job, Satan had limitations placed on him from the beginning, and so has he today as he and his minions attack those of us who are born from above. We are like gold and silver being tried in the fire, and through it all we come out pure and fit for God’s own crown. As it was with Job, the end of his life was more glorious than it was before the enemy started testing him, so shall it be with us as we continue to cling to our Lord by faith in Christ alone.
Yet amid all these things we are more than conquerors and gain a surpassing victory through Him Who loved us. (Rom 8:37, AMP)
In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in darkness; and the darkness overcame it not. (John 1:4-5, KJ2000)
Dear saints, we are in a time of great trials upon this earth–plagues, disease, famine, warfare, earthquakes, volcanoes erupting, tidal waves, people are dying by the thousands. But His light overcomes all darkness in and around us.
For whoever is born of God overcomes the world [Grk. kosmos – Satan’s realm of spiritual darkness]: and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God? (1John 5:4-5, KJ2000)
And he that sat upon the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And he said unto me, “Write: for these words are true and faithful.” And he said unto me, “It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is thirsty of the fountain of the water of life freely. He that overcomes shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.” (Rev 21:5-7, KJ2000)
Jesus, the Christ, not only was there in the beginning of creation, but He has the power and will to bring it to all that God had in mind, the saints of God abiding in His love and glory before His throne in that magnificent city four square which Ezekiel saw called heaven. Remember, Jesus foretold this heavenly abode when He said, “In my Father’s house are many rooms and I go there to prepare a place for you.” Wow! The very thought of living in Daddy’s house together as His much loved children for eternity overwhelms me!
“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.’” (Matt. 25: 31-34, ESV2011)
What a welcome that will be! As John Newton in his hymn, “Amazing Grace” wrote,
Through many dangers, toils and snares
I have already come,
‘Tis grace has brought me safe thus far
And grace will lead me home.
The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures;
He will my shield and portion be,
As long as life endures.
Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease
I shall possess within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.
When we’ve been there ten thousand years
Bright shining as the sun,

Also, I love sharing my experiences with God with you as you are so touched and thankful for it. No one else gets so excited when I tell them about what God has done in my life. Susanne, praying for you and seeing God answer those prayers has restored my faith in my ability to pray and that God actually answers my prayers. As I told you before those 14 years of being stripped in the wilderness pretty well were restored back to me as God saw fit, but having faith in prayer after God being silent for all those years was a lot slower coming back. You have been a gift from God in restoring that faith and so much more that I will be forever be grateful for.
Yes, the Lord says, “I make All things New and the old things are passed away.” What shall we say if we neglect so great a salvation is this?

Wow! So much comfort, encouragement, & confirmation here & at Susanne’s blog of late. I could be wrong but I do not think the Spirit is done with this ‘theme’ yet…
Today, before reading this, I ‘saw’ the verses in Isaiah 60:1-3 in a new ‘light’. You know how you may know what something means and read the words when suddenly the words become revelation? Light=Revelation=Christ and your posts always expand on that for me…
The picture that I ‘saw’ was the light of the glory of the Lord shining from the saints around the globe – Today. It was so beautiful like stars in a night sky but incredibly brilliant and everywhere!
What you shared, and even the pictures, made what I saw all the more real.
I am seeing it like when Gideon and his 300 attacked the enemy at night using trumpets and empty vessels with torches within. Judges 7: 9-25
In vs 20 it says in the AMP version “And the three companies blew the trumpets and shattered the pitchers, holding the torches in their left hands, and in their right hands the trumpets to blow [leaving no chance to use swords], and they cried, The sword for the Lord and Gideon!”
Two more verses to tie this together in 2 Cor 4:6-7 (KJV)
“For God who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”

Judi, it is a real blessing for me to hear that what I shared above was used by our Lord in the light of what Isaiah prophesied. “Light=Revelation=Christ” I like that! As Paul put it,
“For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man’s gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ.” (Gal 1:11-12, ESV2011)
This is our inheritance IN Jesus Christ. Judi, I was touched by your comment, “Fellowship for me has been dependent on my online family. I appreciate you so much, Michael and Susanne, and keep you and ALL here in 🙏.” We really need your prayers, Judi. The enemy does not let up, even the more so as we share what is on our Father’s heart in the light of the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Oh, Judi, I loved this reference to God’s crazy strategy with Gideon. We can only wonder what the enemy saw and thought when the army broke their pitchers and shouted. But the symbolism is so telling and the connection you made with 2 Cor 4 is really good. Indeed, we have a great light inside us, which the world at enmity with God cannot yet see, and like Gideon’s people, we can at times surprise the enemy, even with our very brokenness. At the right time, we trust that the truth will be revealed to some unbelievers around us, so they will experience this revealing as salvation and not judgment. It is a great privilege that Jesus, the light of the world, chose us to be bearers of His light and saltiness. May the Lord help us shine ever brighter.

Very good, Carina and Judi. Yes, we have been called to shine forth His love, not condemn them with our words. I constantly have the lost that know me take interest in the things I do and ask when I will be back to see them again. So I watch and wait. For what?
“And who is he that will harm you, if you be followers of that which is good? But if you suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are you: and, Be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asks you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:” (1Pet 3:13-15, KJ2000)
As it was with Gideon, It is in our brokenness that His light shines forth.

Wow, what a beautiful and timely post! Just a few minutes ago, the Lord reminded me of the words on Gn. 1:2 about the Holy Spirit moving on the waters, and this is a confirmation.
I was thinking of the connection between water and the womb. We spend 40 weeks “swimming” in water, in a protected but dark place, and then the waters break because God decides it’s time, and we see the light for the first time. In Spanish we have a phrase for the mother who is giving birth, “dar a luz”, which literally means “give to light”. During our conception period, God sees us and forms our inmost parts, we are hidden to the world (well, with increased evidence in the growing belly haha) but not to God. And Paul says our life is hidden in Christ, the world cannot yet see who we are, they cannot understand our true worth until God reveals Jesus to them and they get saved or until Christ comes and the Creation is redeemed, and the children of God become manifest. Paul also said he prayed until Jesus was fully formed in us. We need to mature spiritually, like the unborn baby needs to mature physically to be ready for birth. Also interesting to note in connection with 40 is that like Moses on Mount Sinai, Jesus fasted 40 days and nights. Then after the successfully rejecting the temptations, he was ready to start ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit, full of God’s light.
So I find there is indeed a connection between light and the character God conceives and develops in us. In this life we see through a glass darkly, because we’re not “fully cooked” yet, but we will one day be perfect, holy, and forever blissful in His presence. What a beautiful thought indeed.

Btw, your observation as to the number 40 has also been a good one as the biblical number 40 means trial and testing. Whenever God showed me this number in the past, I was not that happy as He announced another trial to me which always happened shortly afterwards.

Yes, 40 shows up all over the Bible as it is connected with trials and testing. God caused it to rain for 40 days and 40 nights when he wiped man off the face of the earth because “their ever waking thought was to do evil.” Moses had to go through 40 years in his own wilderness while living with his father-in-law, Jethro after escaping from the Pharaoh, then he had to endure another 40 years while living with those rebellious Hebrews in the wilderness again. At one point he asked God, “Did I give birth to all these people? Why do I have to endure all their sins against you (paraphrased)?” He was also on Mount Sinai for 40 days and nights with God where he received the law. And yes, Jesus endured 40 days of testing in the wilderness as well (He was a quick student). And my wilderness period started in 1980 (40×2) about when Mount St. Helens blew up and being down wind we were baptized in ash. I am sure there are many more times that the number 40 has shown up in our lives as Daddy has tired and tested us to set us free of the flesh which has held us captive that we might dwell together freely with Him. I can surely say it has been worth it all.

Mmm, I cannot say I’m happy to hear that haha. Tests are the unwanted but necessary part of school. But when God uses tests, they are not merely “Let’s see what you know”, but they are also learning experiences. We are not supposed to exit the testing period unchanged, but better people, even if we fail the test. Because when we do fail, painful as it is, we know there is an area where we need God’s help. And they can be the tools God uses for giving birth to the new things Michael mentions. Let’s say for example one of our tests involves being attacked unfairly. Such an experience can be used by God to teach us compassion and understanding so we have a heart for people who suffer abuse. Or God can teach us about establishing healthy boundaries, and confronting people biblically with love when we tended to sweep things under the carpet. So though our trials can be so painful that we could compare them to birth pangs, the end result is good provided we seek God for help, strength, comfort and wisdom.
I am not happy that I’ve had to meet so many abusive people in my past. I rejoice in the fact that with God’s help and many “reteach lessons” and “make up tests”, I’ve learned discernment, and have also began to recognise where I have repeated those patterns (especially in subtle passive aggressive behaviours) which I needed to confess and renounce. So while my flesh still hates them, tests are good! 😉
I love to consider the 1 John message. What we will be when He comes, when we see Him as He is. That is worth every childbirth pain. So let’s continue to exhort each other to renewed love and faith and good works which stem from our blessed hope, because our reward is great! Love you both!

Carina, as I read your last comment about the trials we go through and how we react… BELIEVE ME, I CAN RELATE!
Sometimes as the trial progresses I think that God lets someone stick a “fork” in us to see if we are “done” yet. When we react He knows that their is more in us that needs “cooking.”
Dead people don’t react. God asked me one time in the midst of a trial I was going through, “Michael, is there a Book of Reacts?” I said, “No Lord, there is only a Book of Acts.” To this He simply said, “Learn from it!”
I don’t know how many abusive relationships I had to go through among church Christians! No matter which church I went to or under which pastor I sat, the abuse kept coming. I finally “learned” from it, not by my mind being exercised, but by my heart being changed. I finally saw that it was like training a dog not to make messes inside one’s house. Sometimes we only get the message when we have our nose rubbed in it long enough. Or like my brother George Davis put it, “God rubbed my nose in everything He wanted me to NEVER DO.” We are being “house trained” for the Father’s house! Jesus said,
“In my Father’s house are many rooms and I go there to prepare a place for you.” He is preparing a place there for each of us by preparing our hearts to live together in His love for one another for eternity. To do this we need NEW hearts and rebellion (passive or aggressive) in our old hearts will never have a place in that perfect heavenly world. What happened to Satan in that world proved the point and prepared the coarse of training He is putting us through so it will never happen again. Yes, we are being given NEW hearts with His will and commands being engraved upon them.
“A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and you shall keep my judgments, and do them.” (Ezek 36:26-27, KJ2000)

Indeed, brother, that was the most important lesson God taught me through meeting abusive people, especially abusers in “church” environments: THIS is what I don’t want, daughter! Some examples seemed (increasingly) grotesque in hindsight. How come I didn’t see through the veneer of fake kindness that this person was a master manipulator, a narcissist and pathological liar? But in the midst of my righteous indignation, God pointed the mirror inward and said, “You know, daughter, this is you in seed form! That’s why you did not see it coming, because there was still a great deal of affinity between them and you, much as you would like to claim innocence.” I learned that we cannot discern deceivers if we’re self-deceived, if we consider ourselves better than we actually are and deny the many toxic attitudes we have learned all too well with the wrong teachers. 😦
So I’m thankful, because through a very painful process it seems God is healing my past and doing something new in me. Coming back to the light metaphor… When you’ve been in a dark room for too long, and somebody turns on the light, it is painful. Knowing this, God will sometimes reveal hard truths in stages, but there comes a time when we need to come to terms with what we are like (today, in our fallen flesh) compared to the end goal which we need to keep constantly in mind so we don’t get discouraged knowing we still fall so miserably short.
I sometimes like to remember the past, what I used to be like, because that reminds me how God was faithful in delivering me from many horrible sins and hard circumstances, in teaching me everything I know, and this gives me peace that if He has helped me so far, in spite of my stubborn and rebellious heart, how much more will he assist me if I surrender more fully as I get to know Him more? It’s not that God will love us more if we are more obedient, but as we grow and mature we will experience more fully the love that casts out all fears. I pray for more of this for all of us. “Be imitators of God, as beloved children.”

Carina, thanks for your very astute observations of our fallen natures and our deceiving hearts. Believe me, I can relate. In Hebrews chapter 4 we read about the Word of God. The context is talking about the Word of God, Jesus the Son of God not the Bible.
“For the Word of God is living, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. NEITHER IS THERE ANY CREATURE THAT IS NOT MANIFEST IN HIS SIGHT: but all things are naked and opened unto the EYES OF HIM with whom we have to do.” (Heb 4:12-13, KJ2000 – emphasis added)
It is Jesus Christ that shines His light into our hearts and get us to see what is really going on in there that we might repent and call out to Him for His life changing power to work in us. Without that we are just part of the problem, blind guides leading the blind. But thank God we go on to read further in Hebrews about our hope and remedy…
“Since then we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Heb 4:14-16, ESV2011)
Thank you Lord Jesus for shining your light into our hearts and being there to lead us out of our darkness into your healing light.

I am so glad to hear this, Louise. Yes, for sure we are living in a litteral dry and thirsty land, but Jesus is our Fountain of Life through all of it.

Susanne, praying for you and seeing God answer those prayers has restored my faith in my ability to pray and that God actually answers my prayers. As I told you before those 14 years of being stripped in the wilderness pretty well were restored back to me as God saw fit, but having faith in prayer after God being silent for all those years was a lot slower coming back. You have been a gift from God in restoring that faith and so much more that I will be forever be grateful for.
Yes, the Lord says, “I make All things New and the old things are passed away.” What shall we say if we neglect so great a salvation is this?
